17 Rules for Success - Rule #3

One must learn to go slow in order to go fast. Technique before speed and accuracy before momentum. Slow down when you are in a hurry.

In life we want to get things done fast. We create urgency. Anxiety, stress and fear become part of your every-day life.

However, we all know that the best way to eat the proverbial elephant is one bite at a time. Focus on what you can do today and what you can do well today. Do your best. That’s all you can ask of yourself. Focusing on what you didn’t get done, as opposed to what you did get done will drain your energy for the day.

The key to success is constant, never-ending improvement. As long as you are improving every day, you will reach your goals. You are not going to accomplish everything you set out to do. As John Lennon sang, “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.”

Life is the place in between your plans. It’s unpredictable, and you can’t plan for changes in it. Don’t create a challenging situation by not giving yourself enough time to accomplish your plans.

Slow down. Let life be beautiful because of the world. Let life be beautiful in spite of the world.

When we are in a hurry, we make mistakes. You do not go from young to old overnight. Have patience because everything takes time. If you get everything you want right away, there is no purpose to life.

Give yourselves plenty of time, and do not be frustrated when things do not go exactly as planned. That is probably the actual plan anyway, because we are not in charge. Gratitude will bring success to you!
